A Text in Daneil Symbolic Logic. The textbook for my proof-writing class was essentially useless as it was an analysis book with a single chapter on proof-writing it was Analysis with an Introduction to Proof by Lay. Intense, yet very educational. Careful proofs are beautiful things – they leave nothing unexplained.

General political debate is not permitted. Author does not expect much from the reader and prive with very basic concepts and slowly progresses towards quantifiers, then set theory, relation and functions, mathematical induction and finally, infinite sets. The only downside is that, like other non-text books, there are only selected answers to the many exercises throughout the book.
To give students the opportunity to construct their own proofs, this new edition contains over new exercises, selected solutions, and an introduction to Proof Designer software. Hlw someone who enjoys systematic-thinking, precision and rigour, I truly enjoyed the journey from simple, ordinary proofs to proofs involving different sizes of infinities.

The book begins with the basic concepts of logic and set theory, to familiarize students with the language of mathematics and how it is interpreted. I’ve never tried learning from the text alone, but it’s a pretty standard Intro To Proofs course text, and it’s not a bad book by any means.
